Brian Vickery – 2012 Personal, Business and Social Media Goals

Judo, tennis, guitar, vocals, Mantis Pulse AnalyticsThis will be my last blog post of 2011. I’m not a huge fan of unattainable New Year’s resolutions, but I am goal-oriented. Here are my 2012 attainable goals:

  1. Love my family more. I want to revel in my daughters’ life milestones since I have one in college and one in high school. I also want to consciously and consistently treasure my marriage. Jan 24th marks 25 years since the day we met, and Krista Vickery has captivated me ever since.
  2. Average at least one blog post per week at My main focus will still be social media and leadership sports analogies, but I also like to write the occasional “Rites of Passage” and business/cooking analogy post.
  3. Average at least one original blog post per month at Most of these tend towards the Lifestyle post like cutting the cord and awesome quarterbacks, but I might have the occasional business/media post like 12 Most Obvious Reasons I Suck at Sales.
  4. Help craft a cohesive Pulse Analytics brand across social media channels. Have you followed our mantispulse Twitter ID and liked our Facebook fan page yet? I appreciate your support, folks!
  5. Ensure Pulse Analytics is part of the short-list discussion when it comes to enterprise-class social media monitoring tools. Then leverage earned trust to ensure Pulse Analytics comes out on top at the end of those discussions
  6. Remind my clients that Mantis goes beyond social media monitoring, and that we are still a preferred software solution provider for analysis, architecture, development, testing and test automation, software integration and project management
  7. Get a judo program started at the Parker Lifetime Fitness and/or get back into more judo practice at Denver Judo. It’s important that a teacher always remains a student, and Scott & Heidi Moore are outstanding judo instructors always willing to teach me humility!
  8. Average playing tennis at least once/week as weather allows
  9. Drop 10 lbs…just because. And that doesn’t include the easy 5 lbs I’ll lose after I stop eating these Oreo balls and almond crescents!
  10. Enjoy life more and work on reducing self-induced stress. I gotta quit flying off the handle when presented with minor inconveniences because I do know that my Life’s Been Good.
  11. Read more. I always read fiction at night, and I also enjoyed great business books like Enchantment, Good to Great, Social Media ROI and Tao of Twitter in 2011. I just started No Bullshit Social Media: The All-Business, No-Hype Guide to Social Media Marketing by Jason Falls and Erik Deckers. I think I have Groundswell as the next book on my list. You can follow my progress on my Amazon Reading List that I update from my LinkedIn profile.
  12. Serve more. I always enjoy coaching, but I’d like to sing and maybe pickup the guitar again. I pulled the guitar out for the first time in a couple of years yesterday. Fingers still sore… :(

What is your #1 Goal in 2012? And remember…

A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~Author Unknown

  1. I love the process of reflecting and looking forward! Love the results of taking that time even more though!

    • Thanks for stopping by Janice. Yeah, I like reflecting individually, and we also have fun reflecting as a family. In fact, we spend New Years Eve/Day writing in a book about all of our favorites from the current year (movie, song, artist, book, hobby, etc). Here’s hoping you have lots of goals in 2012 -> and knock them out of the park!

  2. Comprehensive, thoughtful, striveable, attainable, targeted plus some kick ass judo thrown in for good luck…you are a man of much more than 12 talents,,,

    • That’s some awesome sentiment, Andrew. Thank you very much. I definitely have varied interests. Jack of all trades…master of not a single one of them! But I have fun and love my life!

Thanks for stopping by Andrew. I’m looking forward to sharing the social media portion of those goals with you throughout 2012. And come to Denver, and we can work on the tennis/judo side of things. Heck, you might even be a karaoke master and we just do not know it ;)

  3. You forgot to adjust your schedule so you can attend EVERY #DadChat and add your wisdom on Thursdays from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., PST!

    • Hah, so far my wisdom has involved rocking Christmas songs by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Gary Hoey, camouflage snuggies, and good dark beer I think. Have a great #DadChat tonight!

  4. Brian, aloha. You are such a natural at doing vlogs. Even though they may be longer than the “ideal,” I enjoy listening to you and watching you speak. You make me feel like I am chatting with a friend.

Also, for me the fact that you take the time to include your outline adds greatly to my enjoyment. Yesterday before I sent the tweet to you, I read the script and knew I would love watching the vlog. Boy, was I ever right. Brian, I just felt good watching you.

Brian, when I count my blessings for the year, connecting with you is way up there. Thank you for enriching my life with your warmth, insights and humor. How you “connect the dots” in your blog posts frequently amazes me. You are terrific with analogies.

In terms of my goal for the year, I selected the word FIT. What that means to me, Brian, is that I am going to be FIT in all areas of my life physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. You can appreciate how that word impact all areas of my life.

Brian, wishing you and your fabulous family, a year filled with peace, joy and abundance in all that matters to you. Hauoli Makahiki Hou. Janet

    • Thanks for the flattering comments, Janet. You are definitely a natural at encouragement! I am glad that my delivery comes across like chatting with a friend. That is my goal and personality. I’ve also kept the outline based upon our prior discussions. Some people can elect to just scan the post if they do not have time to watch the video…but I’m happy when they watch ;)

I’m glad you are liking both the analogies and vlogs, and I count you as one of my most engaged (and engaging) social media friends. I’m looking forward to watching how you achieve your FIT goals…definitely worthy achievements.

Thanks for the wishes for my family. They are my true treasures!

      Enjoy the New Year, Janet.
