My recent Social Media Fitness series filled my editorial calendar, so it has been awhile since I produced a vlog. I decided to test the video capabilities of the new iPad while discussing a topic I came up with around the first of the year:

Social Media Relationships and Direct Vent Fireplaces – Are They Real?

As the owner of a direct vent fireplace in my finished basement, I am here to tell you that it is a great convenience to have in a chilly basement. And social media relationships can be convenient and beneficial, also. The video below will make the following comparison between social media relationships and direct vent fireplaces:

  1. Both are available at a flip of a switch
  2. Both can spark the creative process
  3. Both can provide warmth
  4. Both should be used responsibly and turned off when appropriate

  • Do you leverage social media relationships to spark your creative process – regardless of the time of day or day of the week?
  • Have you developed both warmth and depth with some of your closest social media relationships?
  • Do you have the discipline to turn off social media and focus on the relationships under your own roof or in your own community?

Love it1 Love it! Love it! You are such a pro at these vlogs now, Brian. Congratulations. Did you just set up your iPad, push record and start talking or did Krista film you? This analogy was brilliant and fun. Sparking creativity and warmth are the two that struck a responsive chord within me. As I tour the blogosphere and other social media platforms, I am inspired on a regular basis by what I read. Sometimes it is an entire posts that does it while other times it is a few words in a tweet or update. In terms of warmth, Brian, whenever I see something by one of my friends, I tend to feel warm. As I sit here typing things I am smiling as I think of you and how much our relationship/interchanges mean to me. It is always a plus for me to see you wherever ou may be on social media. Thanks, Janet. The vlogs have been a lot of fun. Actually, I put some engineering into setting up that iPad to record. First, I took a suitcase box...then I stacked a tote box...then it was a little skewed because of the angle, so I used an afghan under one side to have the appropriate granularity of fine tuning to get lined up right ;). I like sparking the creativity, always finding someone to engage, and developing warmth and depth with folks like you. Then, the discipline comes in stepping away from the electronics and grilling/smoking something...sharing a glass of wine or hitting the tennis courts/gym. Happy to make you smile!
