Supporting @SocialSteve With #LoveAndKindness2013

#LoveAndKindness2013I woke up to a great Direct Message on Twitter Saturday morning. It was from one of my favorite online personalities: Steve Goldner via @SocialSteve. Steve was one of the first writers whose blog I followed on a weekly basis. He is an experienced and insightful marketing thought leader, and the man likes his music – including The Boss.

As a side note, Steve was also one of the first people to correct me on Twitter when I committed a rookie faux pas. Rather than blow me out of the water, Steve respectfully brought it to my attention – and I immediately corrected the situation. I remember his patience, I think he appreciated my humility and willingness to quickly resolve the situation, and we have built a stronger friendship via Twitter since then.

Because of that relationship, I’m aware of Steve’s sister’s battle with cancer and Steve’s vulnerable blog posts regarding her fight against this terrible disease. One of my favorite quotes in his recent post regarding #LoveAndKindness2013 came from a friend of Steve’s sister, “So let’s celebrate her life because trust me, life is better with her in it.”

Relationships can be found and nurtured via social media, folks. I appreciate so many people in my tribe daily, and I’ve been able to take it to the next level by subsequently meeting several of these people in-person. I hope to meet Steve in-person one day, but right now I’m asking my tribe to support Steve’s idea of #LoveAndKindness2013. Let’s kickoff this simple hashtag with an outpouring of support for Steve’s sister. She has fought cancer for over a year, after doctors estimated she only had weeks to live.

Join me in wishing Barb a Happy Birthday by January 17th!!

Just follow the directions in Steve’s blog post, and use this joyous celebration to kickstart a true “Love and Kindness 2013″.

You are a good man, Steve Goldner – may you and Barb be blessed by an outpouring of support and birthday wishes for Barb. And tell Barb to keep kickin’ cancer where it counts!!

Like I said in the post, Steve - you are a good man. I've enjoyed your expertise as well as getting to know your other interests more via Twitter. I am honored that you reached out, and I wanted to take it to the next level. We've all been impacted by cancer in our lifetime. I do love my "crowd", and I'm glad they enthusiastically rallied around #LoveAndKindness2013. I hope your sister has a special, and memorable, birthday that is one of many to come in her long lifetime!
