Rites of Passage – Granddaddy’s Prayer for Ethan Amadeus

I had one of those huge rites of passage happen this weekend: I became a grandfather for the first time. The above picture is father and son holding hands for the first time. Joshua Richard and Alexis Elizabeth Vickery brought Ethan Amadeus Richard into our lives on January 11, 2013. Krista (Granny) Vickery and I have been abundantly blessed throughout our marriage, and Josh and Alexis build upon our blessings with this beautiful grandson. Here is my prayer for this child who will one day become a man.

Ethan Amadeus,

May you grow up strong, wise, loving, and well-loved.

May you seek many counselors and become the counselor for many.

May you realize a strong leader – and a humble servant – are often one and the same.

Make a difference in your lifetime, Grandson.

Thanks, Susan. It is a picture of Ethan and his father's hand (Josh). But the joy is there, and we are blessed with a daughter...and her son...coming out of the delivery healthy.
