#HecklersHangout 17 – Angela Daffron of Jodi’s Voice
Imagine a 19-year-old, vibrant young lady, brilliant, much beloved, and class valedictorian. Imagine a young woman with that much promise suddenly disappearing. Imagine finding out a short time later that this beautiful young woman had been raped and murdered by a man who kidnapped her in broad daylight. This is the story of Jodi Sanderholm, who disappeared on January 5, 2007.
As is so often the case when tragedies like this happen, Jodi’s friends and family were left with a painful choice. They could simply grieve in peace or they could take the difficult step of using Jodi’s story to publicize crimes like stalking, which ultimately, it is believed, led to Jodi’s death. Angela Daffron founded Jodi’s Voice to do just that.
We are going to have a lot to talk about with Angela. For people who have been victimized by stalkers, the gun issue is a pressing one because they feel they need a way to defend themselves. There is also the fact that stalking is not often taken as seriously as it should be. Not too long ago, I saw a Facebook meme saying something like, “Stalking is just me walking behind you instead of beside you” or something silly like that. The more we downplay the seriousness of this crime, the less clear it will be how wrong these actions are.
It’s going to be a tough conversation but a very important one. We are very fortunate that Angela has agreed to take time out of her busy schedule to cover these issues with us. We hope you can join us!
